The Caged Bird Swings

Doodle a bird cage not with a pencil, but with wire. You are going to love this whimsical object.

Materials:
rebar wire
20 gauge wire

Tools:
wire clippers
2 needle nose plies
large can
paper
masking tape

Cut a piece of paper such that it may be the exact size as the height and girth for the can. Fold the paper into 8 equal pieces lengthwise. Unfold and tape the paper across the can.

Cut two pieces of rebar wire as large as the circumference of the can plus an inch and 1/4.

Cut 8 items of rebar wire 12" long and utilizing the needle nose pliers, make a small loop at one end and a spiral during the other. The loops in addition to spirals should face in identical direction.

Cut 16 bits of 20 gauge wire 2 inches long plus one piece 4 inches long.

Thread one of several rebar wire circles through the loops in the ends for the long rebar wires. Pass both ends through among the loops and tape the ends and also the loop together with masking tape. Place the can in the middle of the wire circle ensuring that the circle fits loosely around the can.
Tape each long rebar wire every single fold from the paper with masking tape.

Place the 2nd circle within the wires about an inch above the can. Overlap the ends of the wires and tape to at least one of the upright wires. Usually do not utilize the same wire that was useful for the base circle intersection. Wrap with masking tape.

Tightly wrap each long rebar wire towards the circle because of the 20 gauge wire. To make this happen, loop the two inch 20 gauge wires on each side of the upright wires by hand. Grab the the ends of small wire with pliers, pull and twist in opposite directions. This will tighten the loops. Continue steadily to wrap and tighten, compressing the loops in towards each other. Clip and crimp the ends associated with small wires.

Eliminate the masking tape and wrap the converging ends of the circle with all the corresponding upright. If the circle is loose, crimp the tiny wires against the circle aided by the pliers.

Gently bend the tops for the long wires in a dome shape before the spirals meet in the centre. Wrap because of the longer little bit of 20 gauge wire.

Place the can on its side and wrap the underside circle and loops because of the 20 gauge wire just like the upper circle. Take away the masking tape that secured the ends for the circle and wrap those ends therefore the loop with a bit of 20 gauge wire.

Remove all of the masking tape that was used to adhere the upright wires towards the can. Gently eliminate the cage from the can. Tweak the form if necessary.

Make a bird and wire swing; instructions are here and place the loops over two wires at the very top (dome) and pinch to close.
